city house renovation    Ixelles, 2026    with stam, enesta      img    plan    txt

A bourgeois house in Ixelles dating from 1902. It consists of a ground floor dedicated to commercial activity and a single-family home on the upper floors. At the rear is an old courtyard and a planted garden. The owners requested that the single-family home be adapted to the needs of its new occupants and made more energy efficient. To achieve this, the house was “opened up” to create more connection between the upper floors and the ground floor, as well as between the ground floor and the garden. An annex on the ground floor opens onto the garden and houses a large multipurpose room, with a roof designed as both a covered terrace and an intensive green roof. The commercial space is being renovated to house a sculpture studio overlooking the street. A staircase connects the studio to the basement, where storage space is provided. On the first floor, the space is completely open plan to create a large living room for the family, and a spacious kitchen overlooking the garden takes center stage. Careful alterations are made to the upper floors to make the spaces more comfortable.
