Dries bike pavilon and playground    Watermael-Boisfort, 2022-2026    with Citytools, Stam      img    plan    txt

The Dries playground is the tip of a green corridor, a vast space of tree-lined lawns, the result of open urban planning bordered by social housing blocks. Tall hedges and dense vegetation hide the playground from the outside and give it an introverted character.

The main aim of the project is to open up the playground and make it more accessible to the neighborhood. The goal is to create new passages through the vegetation that encloses it and to create visual openings. From the apartment blocks to the north, large wooden porticos invite us to enter the playground. From this high point, there is a view that encompasses all the games, the sports field, and at the end, the bicycle workshop that opens onto the street. We walk down the gentle slope towards the field and then pass under the large willow tree to reach the new kiosk. A versatile architectural structure, it opens up 360° to create a link between the neighborhood and the playground. The kiosk becomes the beating heart of the neighborhood, where young and old gather on weekends and weekdays alike.
