Les villas - masterplan and public spaces renovation    Ganshoren, 2029    with bios, Osmos, brat, AqD       img    txt

The Villas Park in Ganshoren embodies the project of modernity, in all its ideals, attempts, and contradictions. From a neighborhood that was initially intended to be a garden city, all that remains is the name “villas.” The villas have been transformed into towers, and today the site seems to be a scientific core sample of modernity, reflecting the successive ideas that have animated the urban debate: collective living, overcoming the urban-rural divide, low-rise or high-rise construction. Indeed, a succession of development plans will follow one another and shape the evolution of this new “city” project. The built forms changed, but so did the public spaces. Past plans evolved towards the concept of a park, a gathering space that we know today in the north of the municipality. Gradually, it was in this large park, a green heart, that facilities, schools, sports centers, and privately developed buildings were installed. Anchored in the hope of “rebuilding the ground,” the master plan proposes a series of spatial, societal, and environmental strategies that frame the transformation of public spaces in the “Villas de Ganshoren” neighborhood.
