The project is located on a plot at the tip of a large industrial and commercial area bordering the railroad tracks. The site consists of a cluster of buildings and structures of varying quality and construction styles. These include metal-framed hangars, storage facilities with concrete post-and-beam structures and masonry infill, display areas and showrooms, and former production facilities (salmon smoking) with their characteristic chimneys, glass roofs, and roofing. The whole complex appears almost like a cabinet of curiosities, an accumulation of architecture on a logistical and industrial plot that has become obsolete over time. Today, the Recypark project is an opportunity to reinterpret and renovate these structures and the site.
Based on what is already there, on the existing situation, and following our interpretation of the R-scale, the site is envisaged as a “village.” The various functions and parts of the program are gathered around a central open space, a common area that organizes flows and routes and collects rainwater. This park is the heart of the project, offering a panoramic view of all the stages and workings of this large sorting machine. Around it, the structures of successive buildings have been surveyed and examined for their suitability to accommodate the Recypark program. The site is therefore the spatialization of the R-scale, which organizes the sequence of reuse stages.
