The city of Lier wants to develop a vision for the future of the eastern part of the city center, combined with projects for the public space. With this request, the city is seizing this vision to take a leap forward not only in terms of space, but also in terms of society. Lier has a unique character thanks to its rich medieval history. The city was founded at the confluence of the Grote Nete and Kleine Nete rivers, with branches of canals and ditches that for centuries formed the city's lifelines and laid the foundations for the urban structures that are still visible today. Although part of its heritage has been lost over time, Lier remains a living palimpsest where the past continues to influence the present. These historical elements form a solid foundation for the future. Our proposal starts from a spatial reading of the links that shape the city, the current situation, and existing qualities. What is good and should be preserved? What needs to be improved? Where are the opportunities for the future? We focus on the fundamental values and intrinsic characteristics of Lier.
